VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the 2nd Annual Red Shoe Shuffle 5K Race/Walk.
Volunteers will play an integral role in the success of this event making it enjoyable for all those
who attend and most importantly making it a profitable event for the students of Monarch School!
Keller Williams Realty, Monarch School, and the children of Monarch are so appreciative of your
generous support.
CHEERERS – FINISH LINE: Volunteers will be cheering the walkers as they cross the finish line.
College students, grade school students and Brownies are good volunteers for this position. The Finish Line
Captain oversees the distribution of noisemakers, bubbles, signs and other fun items to make the experience
rewarding for the volunteer and participant. Requires a lot of enthusiasm.
MASCOTS / CLOWNS: Are you an entertainer with your own costume and would like to volunteer

DRINK STATION: Loading of drinks into ice buckets and providing cold drinks to the walkers.
Drink station is fast pace and requires a lot of bending and lifting at times.
GENERAL: Volunteers who will assist in any area as needed? Food runners, trash patrol, box bundlers,
unloading pizza, participant traffic control and any unforeseen needs which may come up. There are many
unforeseen situations that arise on race day and volunteers need to be available. High School groups are
good volunteers for this assignment.
FACE PAINTER: We are looking for face painters that can donate their time, talents and supplies.

FOOD COURT: There are several food tents. Volunteers are needed to assist vendors and captains
to set-up, mark walker bibs, keeps lines of participants in order, dump empty boxes, replenish food, keep
area in a tidy order. Adults and older students are good volunteers for this assignment.
KIDS ZONE: Adults only. College age and above. Volunteers will keep kids in order to make sure
everyone gets a turn on any of the jump houses which might be on site. Owner of the jump will train the
volunteers on the rules.
MASSAGE THERAPISTS: Students in need of massage hours are encouraged to sign up.

MEDICAL TEAM – ON SITE: Volunteers for the medical team must be licensed or certified
professionals. Volunteers will be stationed at the Walk sites' First Aid tent to assist with any medical needs.
MEDICAL TEAM – REST STOP: Volunteers for the medical team must be licensed or certified
professionals. Volunteers will be stationed at each rest stop out on the race route to handle any medical needs.
REST STOP #1 & #2: All volunteers will report directly the Rest Stop Captain to be checked in and
instructed on what to do. Primary responsibility of the volunteers is to make sure that each participant
receives water, fruit and/or snacks such as cookies or crackers. Volunteers need to be at their assigned
rest stops before the Walk starts to help set-up the rest stop. Volunteers also help tear down the rest stop,
stacking the tables and chairs for the movers to pick up, and dumping the trash. This assignment requires
a lot of enthusiasm.
ROUTE: Volunteers assist the route captains out on the route, putting out the markers, and taking them
down after the walk, keeping the participants going in the correct direction, delivering items to the rest
stops as needed, picking up tired participants, handling emergencies which may arise.
ROUTE CHEERERS / COURSE MARSHALL: Volunteers cheer and assist the participants
along the route as directed by the Course Marshal Captain. Route cheerers/Course Marshal's report to
their assigned rest stop captains to check in. The Rest Stop Captain will direct the volunteers to their areas.
Noisemakers, bubbles and other fun items will be provided. High school groups are good volunteers for
this assignment. High enthusiasm is required.
SITE MAINTENANCE: Volunteers to maintain the walk site. Pick up trash off tables and on the ground.
Make sure trash cans have clean liners. Dump trash into the big dumpsters. Break down empty boxes at the t-shirt,
food and drink booths and deposit into the big dumpsters. Assist in securing the race site back to its original condition.
This is a great assignment for Boy Scouts and high school students.
SITE TEAR DOWN: Assist in securing the Race site back to its original state. Everything that was put up
now has to come down. All of the tents, tables, and chairs have to be taken down and stacked for the movers to pick-up.
T-SHIRT: Volunteers to give qualified participants a t-shirt in a courteous manner. Assist the captain with the unpacking of t-shirts and packing up of any t-shirts not distributed. Keep area tidy and empty boxes dumped in the
dumpster. Assist the participant with any questions or concerns or disputes in a courteous manner by having them
speak with the t-shirt captain. This assignment is best for adult volunteers.
TEAMS PHOTO ASSISTANT: Assist the photographers with Team Photos. Encourage teams to make
signs and have team spirit. Keep the people in line hyped up, laughing and joking. Keep white boards clean
and keep the line moving.
TEAM PHOTOGRAPHER (PROFESSIONAL ONLY): Work with staff and other volunteers at
the Team Photography booth. Teams (ranging from 4 to 40+ people) will pose on the risers and you snap away!
You must use your own equipment (digital camera and memory card); set your camera to take each photo at
1152 x 864 (or 3MB size). You must provide ALL images on CD or DVD within a week of the event.
We provide your images to the teams as special memorabilia of the event! Call (619) 955-2411 with any questions.
SITE / ROUTE / EVENT PHOTOGRAPHER (PROFESSIONAL ONLY): Work your way
through the event site and route snapping photos of sponsorship signage, happy event participants, children,
scenery and the magnitude and excitement of it all! You must use your own equipment (digital camera and memory
card) and provide ALL images on CD or DVD within two weeks of the event. Photos will be used for future marketing
materials (photo credit will be given wherever possible), sponsorship verification and more. Call (619) 955-2411

VOLUNTEER TENT: College age and above. Volunteer will assist with volunteer check-in, volunteer t-shirts
and volunteer food.
RACE CHECK-IN: College age and above. This volunteer assignment is fast paced-primarily sitting.
Volunteers check-in all participants before the start of the Race. Volunteers need to be able to handle pressure,
answer participant questions and follow directions. This is an adult position and ideally suited for a volunteer
who has done race check-in in the past.
